The elderly booming, West braces for more
PAHRUMP, NEV. — If Steve Marsh continued in this dusty first outside the city of Las Vegas, he has an eye on gravel roads and Sagebrush apartments and grunzte: It is in the middle of nowhere.
The small blue-collar town does not seem much. But there are miles of clean, open space and is surrounded by desert mountains. The weather is mild, housing cheap and national parks are nearby.
It was enough for Marsh and his wife, Donna, to move into retirement.
“We love,” said Marsh, relaxing after a round of golf as it enters the retirement age Greens desert. “We are pleased that pigs in uncertainty.”
Retired eager to escape cold winters or congested highways have been flocking to the west cities like Pahrump. The future will bring more the same: The Census Bureau says the population of those 65 and older faster in the West than in any other sector of the country.
While retirees are told how to communicate with an aging population. Will it be enough doctors and nurses? Hospitals and hospices? If affordable housing?
